The Sound of Saturday
With the series of concerts “Lyden af Lørdag//Sound of Saturday” Ensemble Hermes aims to create a recurring event with classical music staged in an informal setting, where both new and accustomed audiences can get close to the musicians and their work with the music.
We hope to gather a mixed bunch of people from different generations and beliefs and together share a moment of beautiful music while enjoying a cup of coffee; to start the weekend with an artistic experience that can both give perspective and open horizons.
How is it possible to hear how old music is? What is it that makes something sound as Mozart and something else sound like Stockhausen? With this Sound of Saturday we will try to wipe the board and immerse ourselves into the most notable stylistic characteristics of each period and see what these mean to the way and style in which the music is performed. Together with the audience we will do experiments on how e.g. Vivaldi would sound is he was played as Brahms and look into what makes musicians play with different techniques depending on the repertoire. We want to enable the audience to hear how old the music is, but also to relate critically to the way it is played and to the choices the musicians make in this regard.
